Pre-Heresy Dark Angel Space Marines

DiStudios MiniaturesWelcome to the first post and pictures for my Warhammer Dark Angels army. Though I have been working on this project for a while I have only now decided to share it while I get more of those Anime photos edited!

Here are some Wip shots of the Space Marine infantry that I am working on. They are based on the Doghouse Gothic design (a model maker) based on enlarging the Space Marines to more realistic proportions compared to the rest of the figure range (Space Marines are depicted as being 7ft tall).

Here is Dark Angel Squad 1, I will add finished shots of the squad once I have completed all the little details. All figures were painted with Vallejo paints and detailed with Tamiya weathering systems.

The army is based on the 7th Chapter of the Dark Angels,  1st Legion of the Emperor’s armies. It has a high proportion of Terran Veterans who have stylised hair (braided). All details are from the books “Descent of Angels” and “Fallen Angels”.

    Hey,

These miniatures are fantastic! Are they GW sprues? Or built from scratch? I really love the old style looking armour…and are they notably old legion DA’s or are they the Consecrator chapter?

All the same, they are very impressive looking fellas!

    Well done!!!

      Hi,

Thanks for the kind words, the Marines are built using the following components: Warhammer Fantasy Battle Chaos Warriors, Forge World Red Scorpion torsos & heads. All the lower leg armour is sculpted to replace the leather boots that the Chaos Warriors normally have.

The project is a Pre-Heresy project and are representative of the Legion before the founding of Caliban, with all colours based on the original Rogue Trader art.

Glad you them and many thanks for taking a look :)

    Hey thanks for your reply!

Your designs and finished product are very inspiring…I’m very into doing these sort of conversions myself, but your pre heresy dark angels have inspired me to look outside of WH40k Sprues to make my army look different…so thanks :-)

How long did a single Dark Angel take to do, and as I understand the Chaos Warrior miniatures come with cloaks…did this take alot of filing down to remove?

    Thanx again,

    RobDA

      Hi RobDA,

its actually less work then it looks, the cloak is a seperate piece from the main body so thats half the work out of the way. All you need to do is cut the Chaos warrior body at the belt and then trim down as desired, stick your Space marine torso on top and then fill with Green stuff. At first a single figure took me almost 2 hours to do but after I got a system working I was starting to produce 10 within a day.

      All the best

    Hey DI,

I’ve just started work on some DA’s like this also…

    It’s good fun!

I took a look at the Warmachine blog and they look very impressive! How’s that going?

      Hi RobDA

Looking forward to seeing your DA’s, the Warmachine blog is going well, my local gaming season starts next Monday and I am trying to finish up a 750pts force for then. I should be posting some of my newest painted Warjacks by the end of the week.

At the moment the figures here are all that are finished. The other Space Marines are in various build stages (around 20 more). I have no idea what the time line will be on this army though as I am currently working more on my Warmachine figures.
