In a follow up to yesterdays post, I have narrowed my options in regards to display cabinets. In a perfect world, I would have the space, time and finances to set up a retail/museum set-up. In reality however paying upwards of £600 for a medium sized display cabinet is unrealistic for now for my needs.
The solution however has presented itself in the form of Ikea. The now infamous Detolf range of standing glass cabinets is now a affordable resource for me and hopefully the solution to my display woes. The cabinet does have numerous flaws as point out by seasoned collectors. For instance there are sizable spaces where the door connects to the main cabinet, this means a great deal of dust can actually get into the cabinet, becoming a size-able cleaning task.
If all goes according to plan, I will purchase 3-4 of these cabinets and have them set up with low heat lights (most likely Leds). The colours I am opting for are the black/brown rimmed version rather and naturally I will picking up a load of window/glass cleaner for the inevitable grubby finger mark removals.
I intend to begin this project over the Easter holiday and fingers crossed it will live up to the image I have set in my head. Naturally I will be posting the details of this project with pictures (I promise!).
